Blue Monday - Top 3 Ways To Help With The Winter Blues

The 15th January is known to most as ‘Blue Monday’, a day that can leave us feeling a little flat. The festive season is over, the weather is colder. and the days are even darker. But there are small things you can do to make this harder time of the year, a lot more positive. Discover our top 3 ways to help with the winter blues…

Top 3 Ways to Help With The Winter Blues;

  1. Don’t Treat Winter Like Summer

    Once the festive season has passed it’s easy to fall into wishing for summer, the next ‘fun’ and busy time of the year. But it’s actually a rare opportunity to hit the pause button, and take a slight break from the constant feeling of being on the go and socialising. Instead let’s embrace the slower pace this time of the year grants us. It’s a great time to set new intentions, and to plan adventures. Listening to your body and giving into doing a little less, and relaxing more.

  2. Get Out In The Fresh Air

    Don’t let the frost put you off, get out for some pockets of nature everyday. It’s easy to see the forecast and want to avoid the outdoors, but the magic of getting some fresh air does wonders to the soul. As we know forest bathing is known to be mood lifting and to help clear the mind from the constant buzz of work and online engagement. Make the most of the brief moments of sunshine on our face as we feel that vitamin D. Wonder at the small moments of nature even for just a couple minutes a day, and see how your mood lifts. And for those daring enough, cold water swimming is again known for its mental health benefits and, despite the outdoor temperature, the sea itself doesn’t go down by much compared to summer…will you take the plunge?

  3. Get Cosy

    Give in to the darker days, and enjoy the hunkering down evenings. Learn to get cosy as you live more like a Nordic, and embrace the concept of hygge; ‘enjoying life's quieter pleasures.’ Such as lighting candles, as a way to lift those dark days. Taking a long hot bath, as you get into a good book, or new TV series. Begin journaling and eat your favourite wholesome meals. Wear some new pyjamas and tuck into some chocolate…

We hope we’ve inspired you to not let the winter blues bring you down…Need more inspiration?
