4 Positive Stories from Around the World
Have a read of 4 positive stories from around the world, which we hope will help brighten up your day.
Despite us being in a place of such uncertainty, it is times like these that can really bring out the best in people.
To reaching out to neighbours who were perhaps previously just nameless strangers, evoking conversations and offering help to those in greater need than your own, is just an example of the great and positive stories we are hearing from all around the world.
1. Local Heroes
We’ve seen this locally here, going above and beyond delivering to people self isolating. Local farmers delivering in a Batman costume and the postman dressed up as superman, all just to spark joy and make people smile.
Communities are really working together to ensure no-one is forgotten about and this can be said in stories found all over the world.
2. Remaining Closer Than Ever
Though space or glass may stand between us, it seems to only make those special moments all the more sweet. Take the story of newly engaged Carly, who thought she wouldn’t be able to share the happy announcement with her grandfather. With his care home being shut to visitors, they had to get creative to share her exciting news. Staff at the ‘Premier Living and Rehab Center’ in Lake Waccamaw suggested Carly show her grandfather her ring through the window of his room, leading to a very emotional moment. As social distancing hasn’t stopped us being closer than ever.
3. Sharing Joy
Celebrities are not immune to having to staying at home, with many musicians wanting to give something back. We’ve been treated to Facebook and Instagram live streams of performances from the likes of ‘Cold Play’ all over. With the latest treat of a full live stream concert, organised by Lady Gaga ‘One world:Together at home’, with the likes of the Rolling Stones, John Legend and Sam Smith… and the list went on!

4. Save The NHS
Captain Tom was supposed to celebrate his 100th birthday with a party of 100 people, but this had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak. And so Tom set about celebrating a little differently before his 100th birthday. He wanted instead to raise £1,000 for NHS Charities to thank staff who had helped his recovery from cancer and a broken hip. He decided to do this by completing 100 laps around his 25-metre garden. With the power of social media, word spread as hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world contributed to his fund, as the total constantly went up and up. Captain Tom has amazingly raised £17m for the NHS!
‘When you think of who it is all for – all those brave and super doctors and nurses we have got – I think they deserve every penny, and I hope we get some more for them too.’ Health Secretary Matt Hancock earlier thanked Mr Moore for his efforts and said he was “an inspiration to us all.’
Relive the moment Captain Tom finishes his final lap! here.
