Read along and discover what Alex got up to, hear about some of the places he visited, including one of the most famous vineyards in the world!

We love seeing Alex’s tremendous passion for wine, and since returning from his amazing travels he has brought even more ideas to Fallowfields we can’t wait for you to experience!

Alex’s Wine Tasting Tour in Argentina

Where Did Alex Go?

Alex flew to Argentina, to explore wineries in this beautiful country. From Casablanca Valley, Santiago, to wineries in Mendoza (just to name a few!)

‘First Day in Mendoza, visiting Bodega Finca el Paraíso, Luigi Bosca, in the Mendoza region of Maípu (not to be confused with Miapo valley, Chile). Tour of the winery and vines, followed by an exclusive tasting in the family’s private cellar, not usually open to the public (lucky me!). Tasting a 1992 Riesling, as well as held a bottle of Malbec from 1912 which is worth ~ £25,000 per bottle, a little out of budget for Fallowfields wine paring??’ - Alex

The Beginning of Alex’s Trip

Alex’s trip began visiting Casablanca Valley, where if you’re a lover of organic wines, this is a visit for you!

‘First Vineyard was Casablanca Valley, Emiliana. Founded in 1986, it became the first organic vineyard in Chile, as well as the first in the whole South American continent in 2001. The bottle pictured above is the 20 year anniversary vintage of the first organic South American wine they produced.’

Visiting The Famous Paul Pontallier

Alex got to visit the famous, Paul Pontallier winery, known as one of the Bordeaux wine greats.

‘Visiting the winery Viña Aquitania in eastern Santiago, founded by and home of the famous Paul Pontallier, Bruno Prats, Felipe de Solminihac. Beautiful setting at the foot of the Andes, photographed are Cabernet Sauvignon grapes on the vine, as well as the winery itself and its grounds.’

Visiting The Winner Of The Best Winery in The World!

‘Catena Zepata, one of the most famous wineries in the world. It won best winery in the world 2023, and paired with its world renowned wines and unique architecture this one was definitely a highlight of my trip. After the tour, I completed a blending workshop, where we had 5 different Malbec from different areas of Mendoza (which due to the different terroirs had different characteristics), and got to measure and mix my own blend of Malbec. The stunning views here are some of the best seen.’

On our latest tasting menu in Fallowfields, we now have a ‘War of The Wines’ wine pairing menu! Where Joe and Alex battle it out on what they think is the best paired wine. Try it for yourself, and book your table today, here.
