English Wine Week | Knightor Classic Cuvée

From the 15th - 23rd June we enjoy English Wine Week! A week dedicated to celebrating the best of English wines, and it’s a great excuse to get out and try something new. We have decided to highlight Knightor winery, and particularly their Classic Cuvée which we sell here at Housel.

English Wine Week | Knightor Classic Cuvée

  1. The history of English wine week

Back in 2006, ‘English Wine Producers’, a trade association for English vineyards, established the event to promote English wines. Since then, it has grown in popularity, with more and more vineyards taking part each year. As to some, it’s still a new discovery that England now offers top tier wines! So wine week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate and highlight local wines, to those who are yet to try.

2. Why do we choose to sell English wine?

We’ve always been about supporting local, and especially within our Cornish community, where possible. And more importantly, continually encouraging Great British produce. By keeping it local we’re also helping with cutting down on emissions, helping our carbon footprint. We also think it just tastes better too!

3. Where is Knightor Winery?

Located in Trethurgy Cornwall in Saint Austel, you will find Knightor Winery. Being based in Cornwall ‘the climate and low yields allow us to produce lighter, fruitier, lower abv wines with good acidity that are refreshing as an aperitif and good with food.’ From their rolling vineyards you can also catch the ocean, making it a truly Cornish wine.

4. Tell us more about the Knightor Classic Cuvée Rose?

Treat yourself this English wine week to the elegant blend of the finest parcels of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier! This delicate sparkling presents aromas of raspberry, strawberry and buttery pastry, with soft flavours of red fruits and cream. Aged for a minimum of 5 years…Perfectly paired with this glorious spring sunshine, and a nibble or two…

Join us in our garden and discover a delightfully light Cornish fizz, we recommend pairing with our Cadgwith crab on toasted focaccia, topped with pickled fennel and wild garlic…as when it’s English wine week, what more of an excuse do you need? Available on our Terrace spring menu.
