Stepping Back in Time…

It’s easy to forget that Housel Bay has been standing amugst the cliff tops since 1894. Though it’s outer shell remains untouched, the inside tells quite a different story…

Late 60s Housel Bay Hotel Brochure

Laying hidden within piles of papers we found what some would call a historic artefact, but in actual fact is an old brochure for our very own Housel Bay, dating around the late 60s! Step back in time with us, as we look inside Housel Bay all those years ago.

Top left we have our very own Fallowfields! Complete with the bay window which we still have today. Though the carpet has definitely gone today… and we now have a much more modern and open spaced feel, if you look closely into the background you will see the door into the Terrace which also are still with us in 2021!

Top right (this one is easy to guess) is Housel Bay! Which pretty much, taking away the cars that is, looks the exact same. We now have a fence inclosing the garden, complete with garden tables and chairs, but it’s really quite special to us that it really hasn’t changed at all. Finally bottom left, is Marconi’s bar. This still stands right in the same place today, thought quite a lot different! Those bar stalls were quite the statement..

We are so lucky to have a hotel which is filled with so much history. It’s amazing to watch how the inside has evolved and changed over the years, whilst still retaining its original feel. Not many hotels can say they have been around since the 1800s!

We’d love to hear your stories. Tag us @houselbay on our socials and tell us about your first time visiting us, we’d love to see your photos too.
