Why Visit The Lizard This October
The heat of summer is slowly simmering down, the sky’s are becoming covered in a soft blanket of grey, as leaves begin changing their hues; autumn is arriving. Read more to find out why you must visit Cornwall this October.
1.The Minack Theatre
This is one of the most magical locations to watch theatre, ever. Sit within a cliff top, in an open air coastal theatre, it really is spectacular. Despite being open to the elements, rain or shine the show must go on! See this October the romantic classic or Pride and Prejudice (sort of) musical! Winner of a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy.
2.The Lizard Landscape in October
The Lizard is a wondrous landscape but it becomes even more epic in the wilder seasons. The sky, the light, the flora and weather all affect the beauty of a landscape, and autumn is one of the most beautiful. A transitional season is one of the best to witness, especially on a scape that changes so drastically. See the sprouting of the beautiful and bright West Gorse along the headlands, and the pop of purple of heather as you pass.
Witness the changing of leaves, the rise of crashing waves, the brewing of epic storms along some of the most famous UK walking paths this October.
3.Wildlife in October
Each season hosts its own wonders and October is no exception. This is the one time of the year whilst in the Lizard you could see an actual lizard! the “common lizard” can be seen on heathland, woodland and grassland and are most often seen basking in the sunshine!
Slow worms can also be spotted, again as you look to the heathland and at the edges of woodland. Although looking a lot like a snake, and despite given the name of a worm, they are actually a lizard.
4. Pumpkin Picking
Nothing quite says autumn has arrived than pumpkins, and it’s a lot of fun picking them yourself. Not to mention the carving that comes after! We love going to Trevaskis Farm.
5.Beginning of The Off Peak Season
Off peak is quite simply the quietest time to visit Cornwall. Experience your own private piece of untouched Cornwall for yourself. Leave the first footprints along Housel Bay beach. See Kynance Cove as though deserted. For the bravest, sea temperatures don’t drop that much either, as you go for a cold water swim or surf in Poldhu Cove. Experience the true grit of Cornwall to yourself.
